We Love grandpa Bisel

I was looking through my posts and noticed I had a drafted one, it was one I did soon after grandpa died... I do not know why I did not actually post it but it brought back some good memories so I thought I would post it now!!

Thursday of last week I got to spent the whole day with my grandpa!! Looking back it was a great day, I think I have felt a little bad because I do not know if I realized it then... But it really was a great day!! I am not a good writer and I usually get frustrated when I try to write things because they just do not come out like I want them to or how I see other people write, but I just wanted to write a few things down about my grandpa and the last few months I got to spend with him.

I always remember grandpa being a great grandpa but I was reminded of that one day when Reece and I got to grandpa's house and Reece was ready to play and started getting out his bowls and pans. I was busy seeing what pills we needed to give him, as walked in the living room to see Reece feeding grandpa, and even though it was pretend grandpa was going along with it! He was licking each spoon she would hand him and play along saying it was so delicious!! I do not know where Reece got the idea it was "Tonic" but she was saying here is your tonic and grandpa would laugh every time. I reassured grandpa I was not trying to poison him and letting my child give him tonic and I had no idea were she got that from.

Grandpa's knee's would hurt him and Reece and I would rub his legs. One day after getting done grandpa grabbed Reece in his legs and said she was in a bear trap, I don't think she knew quite what to do but he laughed and said oh what are you going to do? Grandpa was never in to much pain to play!! Reece would always help me take grandpa his pills and his lunch, One day Reece was really surprised when she took him his lunch and his teeth were sitting on the table. Again grandpa chuckled and when she asked me why his teeth were out I tried to explain and I was just not doing a great job when grandpa took over and showed her how it all worked!

While I was at grandpa's I would have to leave to pick Addey up from school, grandpa would always ask me what time it was and remind me it was time to go get Addey. Every time Addey would come in the door grandpa would ask to see what she had done in school. We would talk about her day and read grandpa books. The last day we where there Grandpa had been really tired all day and had been sleeping but as I brought Addey home he woke up and gave Addey a big kiss and asked about her day. Addey and Reece where putting chap stick on him and kissing him and combing his hair! Addey and Reece spoke grandpa language, when I would have a hard time understanding what grandpa needed they could usually listen and tell me exactly what he was saying!!

I have been so lucky to have such a wonderful grandpa and I have so many memories with him. I think one thingI will be grateful for is my children getting to spend so much time with grandpa the last few months of his life!! We LOVE grandpa Bisel.

Oh Beau Dee...thank you for that beautiful post! You have done such a wonderful job of describing Dad. It's funny, the way I perceived him through my eyes isn't always the way others saw him. Your stories and descriptions match my thoughts and feelings completely. Thank you for retrieving that post and for actually publishing it. As we have worked at cleaning the house out, each time we reach a point of closure, I cry. For some silly reason, we left the fridge plugged in for a year after he died. The day I unplugged it, metaphorically speaking, it was like a disconnect to him and I cried...it was so definite. Your beautiful post has flooded me with all those feelings I know of my Dad and his love and kindness. He really did appreciate you coming and he loved Addey and Reece. Some of the last pictures I took of him were of you and your little girls there trick or treating. Thank you...I love you!

I posted my comment and then went back to read your beautiful post one more time. When I went back, I remembered what I wanted to say...when I saw the title of your post, "We love Grandpa Bisel," of course, I immediately thought of my Dad, but it only took a half second for me to realize that now, my little brother IS Grandpa Bisel! I smiled and thought it made sense for you to post that, as I knew he had just been home and thought you had probably taken some pictures of him and your kids. Admittedly, it was a nice thought to think that your Dad would step up to be Grandpa Bisel. Imagine my joy when I scrolled down and saw MY Dad! Again, thank you!

I also thought this post was going to be about your dad, since it was just his birthday, but what a wonderful suprise to see it was about OUR grandpa Bisel. I LOVE what you wrote, you did a wonderful job describing just how grandpa was. I can see every seniaro that you mentioned. I am sure those girls took great care of him, and kept him entertained in some of the hardest days of this life.
